Mao Xie oolong, also called Hairy Crab oolong (the direct translation of its Chinese name) in English, is one of the Anxi Oolong teas and also one of the most famous oolong teas. It got the name of Mao Xie as fine downy hair can be found on its leaves.
The tea is produced in Da Ping Village, Anxi County, Fujian Province. The history of the tea can date back to the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).
It has ball shaped leaves ranging in color from dark to light green, with silvery hair color at the stems. The brewed tea is light green or golden in color with a natural and fresh flowery fragrance.
Like other oolongs, the tea can be infused 4-6 times. It is recommended to brew the tea in Kung Fu style.
