Yixing teapot is regarded as one of the best teapots for brewing teas, especially oolong tea. It has a long history in China which can date back to the Sung Dynasty (960-1279). The teapot got the name because it is made from a kind of clay in Yixing, Jiangsu province of China. The special clay in Yixing, also called purple or red clay, is the only source in the world for making Yixing teapots.
The unique properties of purple clay make it ideal for making oolong tea. Different mineral composition contained in the clay can produce various colors when fired. The pots are unglazed inside and the purple clay will absorb the tea oils of the tea which is brewed in it. Over time, when the teapot absorbs enough tea oils, you even can brew tea by only pouring boiling water into the pot without any tea leaves.
Therefore, please never brew different types of tea in your same Yixing teapot as different types of tea oil will be absorbed into the clay and finally, it is hard for you to enjoy the true aroma and flavor of your tea.
Remember that Yixing teapots must be seasoned and sterilized before using.
