Ban Tian Yao, literally means half way to the sky, is a type of Wuyi oolong tea. It is also regarded as one of the most famous oolong tea. It got the name because the tea plant is grown on a high cliff as if it is hanging on the sky.
The tea has a long history which can date back to the 18th century. The leaves of the tea have a sour grape/plum fragrance. The brewed tea has a light color with green fruit notes and a whisper of floral.
Like other oolongs, it can be brewed up to 7 steepings.
